I have a cozy little bathroom for a master bath.  My bathroom is small but it does the job.  It was starting to feel very cramped however.  I had a faux metallic-copper finish on the walls and a dark, thick curtain in front of the tub.  The color and heavy fabric made the room feel old and a little claustrophobic.  The room didn’t match me anymore.  I knew that I wanted to lighten things up, add texture, and create interest.  I decided to go with my trusty favorite, board and batten white walls and a gray focus wall to create interest.

Everyone knows that small rooms look larger when you use light colors but here are a few more tricks that you might not know.

How to Make a Small Room Appear Larger

  • Leave open spaces.  Less is more so be sure not to bring in extra items.  The more free space you see, the larger the space looks.
  • Use a flooring that appears almost seamless.  Breaks, spaces, and lines cause your eyes to stop which breaks the room up in your mind.
  • Long vertical lines always help.  The batten and board leads your eye upward and helps make the room feel tall.
  • Paint the ceiling.  This makes the room look taller too.
  • Use appropriately sized furniture.  Large furniture creates a cozy feeling in a room normally but in a small room, it can start to feel suffocating.  Small furniture helps you to feel like you can breathe.
  • Use mirrored furniture.  Mirrors always help create the illusion of more room.
  • Instead of painting the wall and the trim contrasting colors, paint them the same color or two different shades of the same color.
  • Use furniture that is the same color but a different shade than the wall.
  • Use larger accent items.  Too many small items tend to clutter a room.
  • Keep things light but keep them neutral as well.  The calmness that neutral colors create work almost as well as white.
  • Use furniture with skinny legs.  This creates the illusion of openness.
  • Use a clear curtain or open shower.
  • Leave your windows uncovered if possible.  Frame them and add etching for privacy.
  • Add some statement pieces such as art that will draw yours eyes and create interest.
  • Keep things low to the ground.  This creates open space near the ceiling which creates height.
  • Keep things organized.  Clutter can quickly make a space look small.

The texture on my white walls is called board and batten.

Google defines board and batten as “a type of wainscoting with simple, clean lines that can evoke a farmhouse or Shaker style.”

I love this look.  It has  such a classic feel to it.  It looks great on the wall of a small bathroom and it’s pretty easy to create.

How to apply Board and Batten

  1. Measure and cut 4″ pine boards to fit around the top and bottom of your wall.  Use a nail gun to secure them in place.
  2. Use a level and a tape measure to apply 1.5″ pine boards evenly apart to your wall.  (We placed mine 12″ apart).  Use a nail gun to secure them in place.
  3. Use paintable, all-purpose caulk to create clean lines and edges.  Fill in all the nail holes with wood filler.
  4. When the caulk is dry, prime your wall with Kilz® 2.
  5. When the primer is dry, paint your wall.  I used Colorplace® Interior Satin in Elegant Charcoal and White on White.

I bought this gray dresser from a garage sale years ago.  Right after I bought it, I added legs to it, primed it with Kilz®2, and painted it black.  It was for my bathroom at the time but after a while, it started to feel very overwhelming.  As part of my bathroom redo, I took the legs off and painted it gray.  It fits perfectly into the space now and I absolutely love it.

I was able to find some great accessories at Walmart® and Save On Crafts®.

I was even able to find these beautiful towels!

I looked all over for towels like these.  I was absolutely thrilled when I found them and I just about fainted when I discovered what a great price they were.

You can find links to everything in the supply list at the bottom of the page.

Not only did I discover that I am a picky towel snob, I am also apparently a shower curtain snob as well.  I just about gave up the search when I finally found this linen style embroidered curtain.

Displaying large pieces of artwork creates interest and a feeling of coziness.  I chose to display artwork by Edward Henry Potthast.  I lucked out.  I found them at Global Gallery® for a really great price.  They had so many great options, it was hard to narrow it down to just three.

I opted to use brushed bronze as my metal.  I like it in this room because it is close to black but it has a softness to it at the same time.  I wanted it to create a contrast but not so much that it would take away from the tranquility of the color scheme. I switched out my old faucet with a waterfall faucet.  I love it so much.  It’s great quality for a great price.

If you can’t update your bathroom right now, you can build your own bathtub shelf or

make some homemade sugar scrub to feel pampered.

Color Scheme

Here is the color scheme I used for this bathroom in an easily pin-able graphic.

Easter Bunnies http://snippetsofdesign.com/easter-bunnies/ Sun, 26 Mar 2017 20:01:30 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=17262

Via Gio’s Holland Lops

Have you ever thought about giving your kids a bunny for Easter?

I have to admit, for years, I  thought it was a little crazy and extreme for an Easter gift.  We used to have a puppy when my kids were little but she got out one day and we never found her.  My youngest son wanted a new pet so bad.  We narrowed it down to a guinea pig or a bunny.  We finally decided that a bunny was the right pet for us.  I made the jump the next day and surprised my kids with a Holland Lop Bunny.

Her name is Sophie and she is the sweetest animal I have ever known.

Bunnies bond to their humans in a very strong, unique way.  She literally gives me nose kisses every time I pass her cage.  She initiates it.  She runs up to the edge of the cage and sticks her nose through waiting for me to touch my nose to hers.  It’s so sweet and heart warming!  I love it.  If you are considering adding a bunny to your family, do it!  Purchase a small dwarf variety and keep it in your home with you.  Bond with them daily.  I doubt you will regret it.

If you would like to surprise your kids with a bunny, here are a few things that you need to know.

I’m going to focus on Holland Lops specifically.  They are a little more sensitive than most bunnies.  Most of these things transfer to other bunnies but you don’t have to be as careful with them. Most other bunnies can eat a wider variety of greens and live outdoors without a problem.

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on them.  All opinions and thoughts however, are my own. Thank you for supporting my passion.

HOLLAND LOP BUNNIES

Here are some fun facts about Holland Lop Rabbits

  • They are a dwarf breed which means that they are only about 3-5 pounds when they are full-grown.
  • The “lop” in their name is because of their ears that lop over.  They usually lop at around 3 months.
  • Holland Lops that are colored without a white background are called “solids.”  Ones that have spots divided by a white background are called “broken.”
  • They love to snuggle and run around.  They need lots of exercise and snuggling to be happy.
  • They have sensitive tummies.
    • Their diet consists of water, alfalfa pellets, timothy hay, and a small amount of dark greens after they are 6 months old.
    • You have to gradually switch their food.  Adding a little more each time until they are completely switched over.
    • Some pet store treats are okay, check with someone there to see which ones are best for your bunny.  I give our bunny a rice pop every night.  She loves them and looks forward to them everyday.
  • They bond deeply with their humans so plan on keeping them forever.  If you give them away, they will be sad and miss you.  They may even mourn you.
  • In the wild, bunnies have to be on guard.  Because of this:
    • Rabbit’s eyes are on the sides of their heads.  This allows them to see things behind them without turning their head.  They have a small blind spot in-front of them however.
    • They often sleep with their eyes open so you can’t tell when they are asleep.  Frequently the only way you can tell is if their nose stops moving.
  • Bunnies are naturally shy by nature.  If you want to bond with them, be calm and patient.  They need to spend time with you and sniff you.  If your bunny will let you, nose kisses and letting them see who you are when you pick them up helps.
  • They like to pick their own mate and mate for life.  You can’t force them to mate.
  • A Doe can breed as early as 3-4 months and their gestation period is only around 31 days.
  • Rabbits groom themselves.  You can give them a bath if they get dirty but you have to be calm and slow so they don’t jump away and get hurt.  You should use a blow dryer on the lowest, warm setting to dry them so that they don’t catch a chill.  It is best if you stick to cleaning them with a brush, baby cornstarch, and a wash cloth when possible.
  • When rabbits are happy, they will jump in the air and twist.  This is called a binky.

Here is an example of a solid Holland Lop.  Solid doesn’t mean that they are perfectly solid.  It actually means that its brown color isn’t broken up with a white base.

Here are a couple of adorable “broken” spotted bunnies like my Sophie.  Notice the white base.

Bunnies love to be cuddled.  Especially once you bond with them.  Sophie likes me to cradle her like a baby and pet her ears and paws.  She likes to do this every night before bed.  She often falls asleep.

You can buy a cage at the pet store but they aren’t usually the best option.  I did a ton of research before I bought this cage.

It’s perfect for our small bunny.  She has plenty of room and privacy when she wants it.

It’s also much more attractive and sturdier than most of the plastic pet store cages.  I love our Petsfit® Rabbit Hutch.  It was a little difficult to choose a hutch originally but I can’t be happier with our decision.

Sophie likes to hangout in her litter pan.  I think that she thinks it her “outdoor furniture” or something.  She likes to have me in view while I work.  Even when she is in her bed (inside her cabin)  she will place her head so she can see me.  Her timid, little, trusting heart is so sweet.

I totally get it Sophie, I feel unsure too at times. <3

I used to use hay on the bottom of her cage but I think that it started to hurt her feet so I switched to Critter Care® Bedding.  She seems to like it so much better.

It’s important to bond with your bunny everyday.  It’s also important to let your bunny exercise everyday.  If you aren’t comfortable letting her run around your house or yard, be sure to buy a run and a walking harness so that she can be happy.   When rabbits are happy, they will jump in the air and twist.  This is called a binky.  You will know it when you see it.  They also tend to flop over to lay down like this.  Some bunnies appear dead but don’t worry, this is normal and means that they are happy and comfortable.

Here are a few pictures of my kids with Sophie…

If you are considering it, take the jump.  It’s worth it.  Sophie has been such a wonderful addition to our family.

Here are most of the supplies that you will need at the best prices I can find.

A Light Heart Lives Long http://snippetsofdesign.com/a-light-heart-lives-long/ Sun, 12 Mar 2017 04:02:27 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16986

One of my favorite Irish Sayings is

The light heart lives long.

I love this because even though life is hard, if we learn to take things in stride and put a positive spin on our struggles, life is much more enjoyable.

We can’t control everything but if we are optimistic,  we put less stress on ourselves and we are more likely to live a long, happy, and healthy life.

Saint Patrick’s Day is a great chance to chill out and enjoy the people and life around you.

Here are some fun ideas for making the most of your celebrations.

MUSIC

To start out with, you are going to need some really great Gaelic and Celtic music.

I created the following song list for your convenience.

DRINKS

While you listen to the music and spend time with friends or family, here are some traditional and nontraditional drinks for you to enjoy.

Irish Coffee with Irish Creme

Cucumber Mint Spritzer

 Traditional Mojitos

Shopping List:

PRINTABLES

I love Irish Proverbs so I created a few for you that you can easily print out and frame.

The Light Heart Lives Long.

May you always have walls for the wind and roof for the rain,  laughter to cheer you and those you love near you.

There are good ships and there are wood ships.  There are ships that sail the sea but, the best ships are friendships and may they always be.

You can find this “good ships saying” in a number of colors here.

MOVIES

Even if you don’t want to go out, you can still celebrate in the privacy of your own home while wearing your cozy pajamas.

(I’ll be honest, this is how I like to party)

Here are a few movies that are guaranteed to get you in the  Irish mood.

The Irish are famous for their bittersweet love stories.
I don’t know what it is.  They throw our whole heart into it but it rarely turns out well.
They are wonderful, moving stories though and they are definitely worth reading and watching.
Here are a few great movies.

P.S. I Love You

Film synopsis – As they rally around Holly and help organize her apartment, a cake is delivered, and with it is a message from Gerry. It proves to be the first of several meaningful messages — all ending with “P.S. I Love You” — which he had arranged to have delivered to her after his death.

Tristan and Isolde

Film synopsis – After the fall of the Roman Empire, English orphan Tristan meets and falls in love with Irish princess Isolde, however she is set to marry Lord Marke, who raised Tristan. While unaware of her identity, he has won her hand in marriage for his lord and future king of the two countries, but now the passion of the two young people causes a rift leading to a devastating battle.

Ondine

Film synopsis – Ondine is a lyrical modern fairy tale that tells the story of Syracuse, an Irish fisherman whose life is transformed when he catches a beautiful and mysterious woman in his nets. She says her name is Ondine, which means “she came from the sea”.

CLOTHING

Target® has some fun items to help you with your Saint Patrick Day shenanigans.

They even have a kilt if you are interested.

(Irish kilts are generally a solid color but Scottish plaid kilts are so handsome…)

COCKTAIL NAPKINS

Here are a few fun cocktail napkin options to choose from.

(you know you will need these…)

I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing, and fun

Saint Patrick’s Day!

May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live. – Irish Blessing

POSITANO

After my first semester at college, I had the amazing opportunity of traveling through Europe.  I spent the majority of my trip in Italy where I fell in love with the people, customs, food, and culture.  I can’t wait to go back someday.  When I do, I want to visit Positano.  Driving past it was gorgeous but definitely not enough.  It’s the kind of incredible city that you want to completely soak in.

Positano, Italy is a beautiful town located on the western sea shore.  Not only is it a relaxing and lovely vacation spot in it’s own right but it is located near other great and historic cities such as Naples, Pompeii, and Capri.  It is also close enough to Rome that you can easily rent a car (here) and take a day trip there if you want to.

If you are a student like I was or if you have completed school but your student loans are making it impossible to afford the trip, Earnest offers great refinancing options. Your dream trip might not be as far away as you thought.

BORA BORA

Lets be honest, who doesn’t want to experience Bora Bora?  There is something about those dreamy over water villas that draws everyone in.

Those villas are in high demand however, so they are a more expensive vacation option.  Another great option at the same resort would be to stay in one of these private land villas.  They are on the beach and they include a private pool.

If you have your heart set on staying in an over the water villa, the all-inclusive Sandals resort in Jamaica is a great option.

You get to enjoy an amazing private villa and a private infinity pool.

All inclusive is a little more expensive but it is worth it.  All of your food and activities are included which makes you feel spoiled and helps you completely relax while you are on vacation.

I love all-inclusive vacations.  They are even better than cruises.

SPOTTED LAKE

Spotted Lake is located in western Canada near Victoria and Vancouver.  Most of the year, it resembles a common, run of the mill lake but in the summer, it dries out.  This reveilles mineral deposits and separates the lake into many separate pools which creates the allusion of a spotted lake. This makes for a fantastic weekend get-a-way because it’s such a cool phenomenon and there are so many great things to do in western Canada.

The “hero” picture I used for this article was taken in San Diego.  I took the first couple of  photographs the last time I was there.  California is of course, breathtaking.

It’s always lovely.

If you are in the US, It’s a Great option for a quick, relaxing weekend trip.

The downside is that Calfornia can be pretty expensive but you can find deals

if you take the time to look.

WHERE TO STAY

You can stay in this beach house for just $87 a night in San Diego.

or this 4 bedroom home for only $377-$780 per night, $2,270 – $4,470 per week,

How to Throw a Boho, Glamping, Fort Day Wedding http://snippetsofdesign.com/how-to-throw-a-boho-glamping-fort-day-wedding/ Mon, 13 Feb 2017 15:00:04 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16263

Via: Shelter Co

Call me sentimental but I was touched by a very nontraditional wedding.  Have you seen Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams’ Fort Day wedding?  It was a whole weekend of family and friends spending quality time together.  It oozed with casual Boho class.  To understand this wedding, you will need a little background.  Do you know who Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams are?  She is best known for her role on Pretty Little Liars. He is best known for his role in the TV series Suits.  Suits is on of my favorite shows and Patrick is my favorite character, especially after the research I did for this post.  The idea of glamping for their wedding was for sentimental reasons and no one explains it better than Patrick himself.  He explains why on his Instagram post below.

8 years ago we built a pillow fort in my old apartment and started a conversation that has grown into a whole life. It was just a quiet shared idea that became a yearly tradition. This year we invited some more people. A lot more. And we made a wedding out of it. Three perfect days with friends and family. Kids screaming and laughing in the pool shouting “Fort Day” at the top of their lungs. Our incredible tribe lifting us up the same way they have for so many years. It’s impossible to put into words how it all felt. Filled with so much gratitude that I’m lucky enough to have married my best friend. Love you @sleepinthegardn – can’t wait to see what happens next. #fortday2016 ????cred @daveschwepphotography

Glamping has become a very popular hobby.  I have to admit, it looks very appealing and cozy.

I would be surprised if anyone didn’t want to try it.

Here are some of the main things that you will need

for a boho, glamping, fort day wedding or activity.

The Tents

One of the must haves for glamping is a well-made canvas tent.  I really like these tents by Stout Tent and by Shelter Co.

You can purchase or rent tents from either of them.

They offer a few different styles including the ones featured above and the safari tent featured below.

You can also create your own Boho tent.

Like this one I created for a winter engagement photo shoot.

They aren’t as durable but they are great for photo shoots and weddings.

The Bed

A glamping bed needs to be easy to transport but incredibly cozy.

You want to feel spoiled and warm when you sink into it even though you are outside.

This can be accomplished with thick comforters, quilts, and warm wool blankets.

Be sure to use soft sheets with a high thread count and pillows that completely engulf you.

Palettes make a great base for your bed and a fold-able foam mattress helps you enjoy the comforts of home.

The Accessories

Accessories are a must for glamping because they add to the beauty of your surroundings which add to the feelings of being spoiled.

Bunting is great because it holds up nicely while camping.

Decorative Bunting Boho or Floral.

Flowers are great for events and weddings.

Rugs are a must because having something soft under your feet is very important for feeling cozy.

The Furniture

Lovely, natural furniture is important for making life easier and adding to your tent feeling more like home.

Here are a few possible additions.

The Lighting

We are spoiled now-a-days because we have so many lighting options even without an electrical outlet.

Lanterns,candles,solar, and battery-powered lights…

here are some great options.

Bell Tent Chandelier

Solar String Lights

The Tables

I LOVE eating alfresco.  Don’t you?  Here are some great ideas for making your outdoor,

camping tables look inviting…

Gold Crowns

Troian’s Crown is gorgeous.

I wasn’t able to find it  but this stunning gold Viktoria Novak goddess crown is as equally breathtaking.

If you don’t want to spend that much,

here are a few less expensive but equally as beautiful options.

Floral Crowns

If you don’t want to wear a golden crown, a floral crown is just as boho and very flattering.

Here are some fabulous options to choose from.

Most local florists should be able to reproduce them.

Boho Bus

For travel and fun, the couple bought a school bus that they redecorated to fit perfectly into their Boho style wedding.

You can find used school buses for less than $2,000 on Ebay Motors.

What a deal.  What a fun project.

You can find Boho Pillows and Rugs from ViviTerra® here.

Hopefully this gives you some great ideas for your own

boho, glamping, and tent day celebration or wedding.

I’m already planning my next holiday.

Quick and Easy Valentine Ideas http://snippetsofdesign.com/quick-and-easy-valentine-ideas/ Tue, 07 Feb 2017 15:00:33 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16734

Since next week is Valentine’s Day,

I thought I’d share some Valentine projects.

I wanted the projects to be easy but I wanted them to be taste-full so of course,

Cricut® came to mind.

I mean, any way you “cut it”, nothing is easier than having a machine do 90% a project for you.

These are all ready to make projects that you can find in Cricut® Design Space.

Most of them I designed while I worked at Cricut® such as the fortune cookies

and the tic tac toe but a few of them were created by other Cricut® designers.

If you click on the links, you will find the make it now projects.

Make it now projects make your life even easier because we did all the “dirty work” of prepping and testing the projects for you.  Completing a project is as simple as loading your

Cricut® Explore Air 2™, pressing go, and following the instructions to complete the project.

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on them. However, all opinions are my own, Thank you for supporting my passion.

Valentine Tic Tac Toe

Valentine Fortune Cookies

Valentine Coloring Cards

Freckles Quote Pillow by Rad & Happy

Kiss Me Dang It Pillow by Rad & Happy

Cupid’s Arrow & Quiver

Cozy Baby Bootie Applique

Heart Hand Warmers

and finally, Owl Lip Balm because I think it’s a cute little valentine gift.

Evite® has quite a few Valentine ideas as well.

Such as this engaging tutorial on creating a bacon rose bouquet.

It is perfect for the man in your life.

and these adult only champagne floats that could put a fun twist on a lovely evening.

These DIY rose‘ gummy bears also look like a fabulous idea.
<

You could throw a Valentine party.  Evite® has some very creative invitations to choose from.

like this Beauty and the Beast themed invitation.

By the way, don’t forget to get your pre-sale tickets for the movie!

and be sure to check out my Beauty and the Beast Tea Party and Movie Night here.

If Valentine’s Day is not your thing or you have chosen to be single this year,

this witty singles awareness invitation

would be perfect for helping you quickly throw together a Proud to Be Stag Party.

Hopefully this gives you some great ideas for Valentine Day!

A Year in Review Photo Book http://snippetsofdesign.com/a-year-in-review-photo-book/ Fri, 03 Feb 2017 15:00:19 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16736

One of my New Years resolutions this year was to take more photographs of my family and print them out into a useful format.  Years ago I used to scrapbook.  I loved scrap-booking but as computers became more and more important in my life, I moved away from it.  This has been a blessing and a curse in my life.  So much of my life is spent on the computer. I LOVE computers.  Unfortunately however, this means that all of my photographs stay on my computer.  Unless I am creating a project, there is just no need to take them off.  This works great for me but this also means that unless I post something, no one gets to see any of the pictures but me.  I seriously believe that if something happened to me, my family would ever see our photographs again.

*I was compensated for this post. However, all opinions and thoughts are my own & from my heart.  Thank you for supporting my passion.

In my quest to fulfill my goal, I came across Mixbook.  Mixbook has made it possible for anyone to create a professional photo book in no time.  They offer pre-designed books that you can simply slip your photos into. They also offer an easy to use editing app.  You can change just a few things, add pages, or start from the ground up.

It’s as easy as dragging and dropping your photos to where you want them to be.

I opted for a year in review book because they offer great stickers, layouts, and ideas that give you plenty of inspiration to include all of your photos.

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on them. However, all opinions are my own, Thank you for supporting my passion.

There are options for every milestone and occasion.

They have so many beautiful, sentimental, and fun sayings,

Your pictures almost edit  themselves.

and they offer great graphics to make your book completely personal.

The photo book is even more stunning in person.  I am so impressed with how professional the printing and binding are.

One of my favorite parts of my photo book is the back.  I love the sticker.

It says “Certified on of a kind, our family, authentically guaranteed”.

Out of all the New Years Resolutions that I have even done, this has by far been my favorite and I just know that it will benefit us for the rest of our lives.

I have fallen in love with this resolution.  I may have to make this a goal every year.

You should consider making one.  Trust me, it’s a goal that you won’t ever regret making.

If you would like to create one of your own, you can find Mixbook here.

Happy DIYing friends!

Beauty and the Beast Tea Party and Movie Night http://snippetsofdesign.com/beauty-and-the-beast-tea-party-and-movie-night/ Tue, 31 Jan 2017 21:58:03 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16537

I have been so impressed with Disney®’s new live action movies they have released lately.  They are REALLY good.  Speaking of which, have you guys seen the trailers for the new Beauty and the Beast movie with Emma Watson?  I can’t wait to see it.

I have a couple of nieces that LOVE Beauty and the Beast,

so to make the most of the movie premiere,

we threw a Beauty and the Beast tea party and movie night.

We had so much fun, I thought that you might like to throw one too.

Here are some ideas and free printables to help you easily throw your own when

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters March 17.

*As you know, I am an Evite® Affiliate and Influencer.  This is an Evite® Paid Post but all of the ideas and opinions are my own.  Thank you for supporting my passion.

First of all, you need great invitations to invite your friends to your party.

Evite® has just introduced new Beauty and the Beast party invitations

to celebrate the release of the movie.

We chose to use this invitation for our party.

You can find Evite®’s full new collection here.

A Beauty and the Beast party wouldn’t be the same without an enchanted rose.

Luckily, they are easy to create.

®

You can pick up silk red roses and a glass bell vase at any local  or online craft store.

I simply stacked up a few books and used molding clay to secure the rose in an upright position.

We also dropped a few rose petals on the books for effect.

Our take-home favors were fairy-tale princess mirrors, an enchanted rose necklace,

and a bag of movie popcorn with a Beauty and the Beast movie ticket tag.

You can download the tag and find the instructions for making the bags here.

I bought the mirrors. chains, and glass necklace globes.

Then I created the tiny roses out of molding clay and wire.

You can find those instructions here.

(They are super easy)

We had little tea sandwiches cut into the shapes of tea pots and cups.

You can find the recipe and instructions for the sandwiches here.

To carry out the enchanted rose theme I folded red napkins into a rose styled napkin fold.

You can find those instructions here.

We had herbal tea.

I sewed each tea bag into a heart shape and attached it to a Mrs. Potts shaped tag.

You can download the printable and find the instructions to recreate these here.

We had individual mini cakes in glass domes and

cake pops in the shape of Plumette, the feather duster.

You can find the instructions and the printable for the wings here.

We had a blast and the girls felt as special as Belle herself.

If you would like to recreate this party, you can find the supply list here.

Thank you friends for “being our guest!”

I always love when you stop by.

Be sure to see Disney®’s Beauty and the Beast,

I have a feeling that this “tale as old as time” is going to be a

movie that you won’t soon forget.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale 1/30/17 and Beauty and the Beast hits theaters  3/17/17.

Happy DIYing friends!

Infused Water Recipes http://snippetsofdesign.com/infused-water-recipes/ Sun, 29 Jan 2017 22:50:45 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16591

The beginning of the year is a great time to begin new habits.

By this time, (the end of January), many of us have started a few… AND opted out of a few…

Because of this, I thought that it would be the perfect time to talk about Infused water.

Drinking more water is not only a healthy goal but it is also easy to pull off with a few small suggestions.

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on them.  However, all opinions and thoughts are my own & from my heart.  Thank you for supporting my passion.

1. Keep water in the fridge, ready to drink.

You can buy the glass bottles below here.

They are sold in a set of 6.

It is easy to keep them in the fridge and if you fill a bottle every time you drink a bottle,

you always have a cold bottle ready to use.

This makes them easy to grab on your way out the door or while you are working.

2. Flavor your water

Flavoring water is so popular right now.  Not only does it taste great but it also fills your water with nutrients.

Here are some fun combinations to try:

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on them. However, all opinions are my own, Thank you for supporting my passion.

These recipes also work great for creating infused water for parties and gatherings.

Simply create them in larger containers.

3. Create a water bottle that you WANT to use.

Last year, when I worked for Cricut® my job was to design

projects for Cricut Design Space®

These sassy water bottles are one of the projects I designed.

You can create just one of them or all of them easily using your Cricut Explore©.

You can find the project here

and you can buy the bottles here.

4. Purchase an Infuser bottle that is fun to use.

There are so many different bottles available today that make infusing your water easy.

The bottle below is my favorite because it is convenient, it works great, and it looks lovely.

It is also available in a number of colors so that you can choose your favorite.

You can find it at Target® here.

I’m also crushing on the insulated stainless steel water bottles from ReUseIt.com

Wood Grain Bottles without a handle,

wood grain with a handle,

and metallic bottles without wood grain.

The bottles I used are no longer sold but you can find similar bottles here.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas for incorporating more water into your daily life.

Happy DIYing friends!

How to Decorate a Bar Cart for a Party http://snippetsofdesign.com/how-to-decorate-a-bar-cart-for-a-party/ Wed, 28 Dec 2016 15:00:06 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16354

With the biggest Celebration of the year just around the corner, I thought it would be a great time to discuss decorating a bar cart.

If you set up your cart correctly, it should pretty much run itself.  Guests should be able to help themselves to drinks continually throughout the night and your cart should stay visually appealing.

*I was compensated for this post. This post also contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on them. All opinions and thoughts however, are my own .  Thank you for supporting my passion.

The trick is to balance usefulness and attractiveness.

Start with a great bar cart. I fell in love with this beautiful Gold cart.  It’s a great color and very sturdy.

Then choose some beautiful decanters. The right decanters really complete a bar cart.

My personal favorite are Ravenscroft Crystal decanters.  They are heavy, well made, and lovely to look at.

Then you need to choose some really great glasses, some attractive coasters

and some fun cocktail picks.

Be sure to include some fresh flowers,

bar tools

and glimmer lights for ambiance.

Finally, make sure you have plenty of mixers, and garnishes on hand for mixing a number of drinks.

Merry Little-Bit-Late Christmas http://snippetsofdesign.com/merry-little-bit-late-christmas/ Mon, 26 Dec 2016 19:57:14 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16309

With so much going on during the holiday season,

sometimes it’s hard to deliver all of your gifts on time.

I thought it might be fun to share a gift idea for situations like these.

So Merry Little-Bit-Late Christmas my friends!

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on them. However, all opinions are my own, Thank you for supporting my passion.

To create my gifts I started with these beautiful, square bowls from Pier 1 Imports.  You can find them here in a set.

You can also find them at your local Pier 1 Imports for $1.00 USD each.

I filled the bowls with my favorite toffee.

You can find the recipe here.

Then I wrapped the bowls in cellophane and tied them with a blue and white baker’s twine.

I printed off the tags and cut them out using my Cricut® and the directions here.

If you don’t have a Cricut® machine, you can use a printer and a pair of scissors.

Here are the downloadable tags:

I finished the gifts off by tying the tags around them using more of the blue and white bakers twine.

I hope you are enjoying your holidays, time off,

time with family and friends, or whatever you might be doing this week.

Happy DIYing friends!

Cheers Y’all http://snippetsofdesign.com/cheers-yall/ Tue, 20 Dec 2016 20:39:31 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16201

Every Year my family visits a neighboring city that sets up a large display of Christmas lights in one of their parks.

It’s a simple and fun tradition for us.  Even as my kids get older, they still want to go.

We like to take cookies and milk to enjoy on the drive.

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I like to share a free printable of the

tags that we use every year on our milk and cookies.

All Reg. Priced Christmas Gift Wrap 30% Off, valid 12/9 – 12/24 at Pier 1 Imports

The first year included these free monogrammed blank tags and my favorite recipe for gingersnaps.

It’s called Cookies, Milk, and Christmas Lights.

Another year included these free

Polka-Dot Monogram Tags

This year I stepped away from the monograms and for fun, I created these “Cheers Y’all” tags.

I also added ribbons from English Ribbons and attached cute bows that I made with the DecoFun British Bow maker using the instructions in this video.

Here is the downloadable link for the tags.  You can use the instructions in this video here to print and cut them using your Cricut® machine.

You can also print and cut them using your printer and a pair of scissors.

Cook Time
8 min
Ingredients
  1. 1 cup all purpose flour
  2. ½ tsp baking soda
  3. ½ tsp baking powder
  4. ¼ tsp table salt
  5. ½ cup salted butter, soft (not melty)
  6. ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
  7. ½ cup granulated sugar
  8. 1 large egg
  9. 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  10. 1½ cups finely shredded coconut, sweetened or unsweetened
  11. 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment, blend together the butter and both sugars until fluffy and light, 3-4 minutes. Alternatively, add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until blended and smooth.
  3. On low speed, gently mix in the dry flour mixture just until blended, scraping down the sides as needed. Add coconut and slowly mix just until combined, do not over-mix. Add 1 1/2 c. of the chocolate chips. Blend well.
  4. Wrap dough airtight in cling wrap and chill for at least 1 hours, or up to several days in fridge.
  5. When ready to bake, heat oven to 350 F, with rack on lower middle position.
  6. Line baking sheets with parchment or silicone mat.
  7. Let chilled dough sit at room temp 5-10 min.
  8. Form 1 TB rounded dough balls, 2 inches apart on lined baking sheets. Slightly depress dough balls, as they will only spread moderately during baking.
  9. Bake 8-10 minutes or just until golden; cookies will seem slightly under-baked, but will set upon cooling.
  10. Pour the remaining chocolate chips into a small glass or ceramic bowl. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. If needed, continue to heat them 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until they are fully melted. (Do not over-cook)
  11. Dip cooled cookies into the melted chocolate covering one half of the cookie. Cool on parchment paper until chocolate is hardened.

Are We Merry Yet??? http://snippetsofdesign.com/are-we-merry-yet/ Mon, 19 Dec 2016 15:00:39 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16235

With Christmas less than a week a way, I thought that it would be fun to share a few ideas to make the holidays easier on you.

Sometimes as adults, we get lost in getting ready for Christmas and the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Sadly, this causes us to loose some of the excitement and whimsy that makes Christmas special.

*This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on them. However, all opinions and thoughts are my own & from my heart.  Thank you for supporting my passion.

On that thought, my gift to you this year is a few things to help you kick your “cheer in gear”.

«SOMETHING TO LISTEN TO»

Hearing a beautiful Christmas Carol can fill you with Christmas cheer in seconds.

I compiled a song list of Christmas songs for you.  It’s called “So This is Christmas”.

This list has honestly made my Holidays.  I hope you enjoy it.

I created it on several different websites and apps so that you could pick the one that is most appropriate for you and the device that you are using.

*Please note that not all songs are available in all 3 places so each song list is slightly different.

You Tube

Itunes

Spotify

«SOMETHING TO WEAR»

I thought it might be fun to share some winter wardrobe ideas.  Sometimes choosing an outfit is just one more thing to think about.

Here are some ideas and inspiration to help make picking out an outfit a little easier.

Each of these outfits help you look great  but they are surprisingly comfortable.  I have included things like a pair of dress pants that look dressy but feel like yoga pants and some cozy knit throws.

A FUN ACTIVITY

Gingerbread houses and cookies.

They sometimes look difficult but they are fun and easy to create.

They are festive, they look, and they smell great.

You can find my Gingerbread and Frosting Recipes here.

These include pictures, instructions, and patterns.

SOMETHING YUMMY TO SNACK ON

Toffee is my very favorite thing to make during the holidays.

This is the very best recipe I have found.

It’s so easy and tasty.

(It tastes just like Score Bars®)

A GIFT FOR YOU OR A FRIEND

Last week I shared Peppermint Sugar Scrub.

This really is a great recipe and it will help you feel pampered.

Try it if you are stressed

Just rub it all over and then wash it off just before you get out of the shower.

Happy Holidays friends!

I hope that this helps you enjoy the holidays and find your cheer if it’s missing.

If you have followed my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed my

love for homemade sugar scrubs.

In the past I shared with you the olive oil, sugar, and

honey scrub that I personally use everyday.

You can find that here.

Christmas Party on the Fly http://snippetsofdesign.com/christmas-party-on-the-fly/ Tue, 13 Dec 2016 01:45:37 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16049 how to throw a Black, White, and Red Party on the Fly 1

Red, Black, and White Christmas Party on the Fly

I was challenged by Evite® to plan a last minute Christmas party on a budget of $100.

That’s my kind of challenge so of course I said yes. :)

You can visit this page to see all of the other creative ideas as well.

We had a great time hanging out and eating yummy food.

Plus, it was a blast to take pictures and post them to our party photo feed on Evite®.

*As you know, I am an Evite® Affiliate and Influencer.  This is an Evite® Paid Post but all of the ideas and opinions are my own.  Thank you for supporting my passion.

DIY creanberry and evergreen napkin wreaths 1

I chose a black, white, and red theme using berries and evergreen.  They look great, they are easily accessible, and they are very inexpensive.

A bag of cranberries costs less than $5 and you can buy left over branches from almost any Christmas tree stand for $5 as well.

I already had the snow-berries and vase but you can find branches of snow-berries on sale at almost any craft store for less that $5 a branch.  I have bought them on sale before for $2.50 each.

DIY Cranberry and Rosemary Drink Stirrers

For entertainment, we played Christmas Carol Pictionary.  It was a blast and I love that it’s a new take on an old favorite tradition.

Creating a Warm Welcome for Your Guests http://snippetsofdesign.com/creating-a-warm-welcome-for-your-guests/ Tue, 06 Dec 2016 12:25:02 +0000 http://snippetsofdesign.com/?p=16020 *This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you click on them. img_2299One of the great things about the holidays is the opportunity to spend time with family and friends but with the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the activities of the holidays, it’s sometimes hard to make your guests feel pampered.

Welcoming basket for house guests

The secret to making guests feel spoiled is a combination of fulfilling their needs and surprising them with pampering details.

There are ways you can achieve this whether your  space for guests consists of a room, a couch, or an air mattress.

Simple ideas for pampering your guests.

Let’s start with the guest room.

A great guest room should feel cozy and serve the needs of your guests while making them feel pampered.

Think of the feeling you get when you enter a 5 star, hotel room.  It feels like a breath of fresh air, warm and inviting.  It  looks soft but put together.  You want to touch and lay on everything.  Plus, they include great details like a fluffy robe for you to use or a yummy chocolate on your pillow.

Everyone feels spoiled in a nice hotel room.

get-this-look_tully-bed

The most important piece in a guest room is the bed.

The bed should be sturdy and attractive.

You might want to consider a beautiful upholstered headboard,

like this one, because it is inviting and can double as a chair.

This is also helpful if there isn’t room for a sitting area in your guest space.

get-this-look_leesa

After you pick out the bed frame, you will need a choose a cozy mattress.

I would recommend a Leesa® mattress because they are extremely comfortable,

they are a great price, and they ship straight to your home.

Plus, as an added bonus, Leesa® donates a mattress to homeless shelters for every 10 mattresses they sell.

get-this-look_royalty-lace-sheets

Then you need to pick out sheets.

Pretty sheets always add a feeling of romance which tends to make people feel loved.

That’s why lace sheets are great but the thread count is important to keep in mind for comfort.

get-this-look_hotel-style-sheet-set

Anything over 1000 thread count tends to feel softer on your skin.

That’s why hotel style sheets are a great option too.  They look and feel great.

get-this-look_down-blend-comforter

Then you need a Down Comforter.

A down, down alternative, or down-blend comforter is a very important aspect  in creating a pampering guest room as well.  I like to use two down comforters, one called “warm” for summer and spring, and a “warmer” one for winter use.  Especially for the holidays,  it will make the bed really fluffy and make your guest feel like they are sleeping on a cloud.

get-this-look_solid-gray-sham

You might want to cover your comforters with comforter covers to keep them nice.

I also enjoy the look of a sham or quilt over down comforters.

Gray and white are always nice neutral colors for a guest room.

get-this-look_throw-pillows

Pillows always add an element of beauty and comfort.

Two large shams and three small pillows is usually a good rule.

Mixing textures and patterns adds interest and beauty.

get-this-look_artic-fox-throwSpeaking of texture, a yummy throw is the perfect way to finish off a guest bed.

There are so many beautiful, soft throws with amazing textures around to choose from now.

Faux fur is especially fun and cozy.

img_2295

Whether you have a guest room or not, a guest basket or tray is always a good idea for pampering your guests.

img_2299 img_2353

Drinks, treats, and entertainment are always appreciated.img_2297

It is always helpful to include your wifi password as well since everyone likes to feel connected.

When creating your  gift basket, include things that make your guests feel special.  As in most situations, the love is in the details.

Include things like:

Even if it’s not in the cards for you to turn a spare bedroom into a guest room.  You can still create a gift basket or included some of the following ideas in a guest bathroom to help your guests feel spoiled.

Some great ideas to include in your guest bathroom.

You Could Include things Like:

I hope that gives you some good inspiration for entertaining your guests this holiday season and I hope your guests feel spoiled.

My Addition to this special Holiday Guide is

Individual Sweet Potato Casseroles with Maple Syrup, Candied Pecans, and Marshmallow Meringue.

I have a confession, I love Sweet potatoes.  I order them all year round, I consider them a special treat from my favorite restaurants.

I decided to take all the different things I like with sweet potatoes and combine them into one totally awesome, yummy sweet potato dish.

Sweet Potatoes with Candied Pecans and Marshmallow Meringue 2 | Snippets of Design

Although there are several steps to this recipe,

it’s very easy and many of the steps you can do ahead of time.

The first step is to cook the sweet potatoes.

You can peel, cube and boil them or you can wash, prick and bake them 400 degrees F.  Either way is totally fine.

Cook them until they are very tender when pricked.

Cool completely.

TIP:  You can cook the sweet potatoes and store them in the fridge as early as two days ahead of time.

When you are ready to bake them, combine the insides of the sweet potatoes in a bowl
with the milk, butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg.
Mix together slowly until blended.

Spoon the mixture into your individual casserole dishes or ramekins.
