Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut

My Mother-in-law has made these amazing homemade almond joy bars for years.

I thought that they would be really fun to share with all of you…

It turns out she got the recipe from an old friend

{one of my husband’s best friend’s Mom}

I am always blown away with what a small world it is.

They are so yummy and taste better than the candy bars, maybe because they are so fresh.

I decided to make a Mounds and an Almond Joy version.

 

Homemade Almond Joy & Mounds Bars

Homemade Almond Joy & Mounds Bars Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 12 oz. pkgs. chocolate chips {milk chocolate for almond joy or semi-sweet for mounds}
  • 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 4 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 14g. pkgs. of coconut
  • 2 cans condensed milk
  • 1 pkg. whole almonds or 1 c. slivered {for almond joy}
Directions
  • Melt 1 pkg. of the chocolate chips and 2 Tbsp. of the oil in a glass bowl in the microwave for 1 minute. Stir until fully melted and smooth. Pour onto a 9x13 pan lined with wax paper. Spread. refrigerate until cool and hard.
  • Meanwhile, cook the condensed milk and gelatin until boiling, making sure to stir it constantly so that it doesn\'t burn.
  • Place the coconut in a large bowl. Pour the milk mixture over the top and stir well. Spread over the hardened chocolate. Place the almonds over the top of the coconut. Cool.
  • Melt the remaining chocolate the same as the first. Spread over the coconut and/or almonds. Cool completely and cut into squares.
  • ENJOY!!!
