DIY Project

To create the chevron shelves, scrap the cardboard that is supposed to be used on the back of the bookshelves and cut a piece of plywood to use instead.  Attach it to the bookshelf frame using screws.  Then use half round trim to create the chevron pattern you would like.

I like the way mine turned out but,  if I did it again, I would make a smaller chevron pattern so that it would be a little more visible.

Glue the pattern in place using Liquid Nails.

After it dries, rough up the entire surface of the shelves with sandpaper and prime everything.  You may want two coats of primer.  After the primer dries (wait 24 hours if you want  an extra strong bond), caulk, and paint everything.
