I recently had to update my porch a little so I decided to share my autumn porch decor with you.

My entryway needed an update because it got old and worn.
It needed a new paint job, but, I didn’t want to change the color, so, I simply repainted it black. Even that simple move made a huge difference.
Then it needed a new door handle with a dead bolt. The finish had worn off the old one and it would pop open randomly which scared me. We needed a new handle that had a better, more durable finish, and one that would keep the door closed, which seems like a pretty basic request, don’t you think? lol
We definitely needed to feel more secure. I still have three boys at home and feeling less secure isn’t an option when you’re a parent. So, a new doorknob was worth the better peace of mind.
I learned so much while shopping for a new lock. Did you know that there is a good, better, and best rating system to help you find the right locks and deadbolts for the doors? I had no idea. It definitely helped, however, in choosing the best lock for our home. It was easy to choose the best one that would help us to feel more secure. I also discovered the importance of choosing a lock that has the SecureHome™ label. Let me explain, BHMA Certified locks and deadbolts are vigorously tested in the three areas most important to you: Security, Durability, and Finish. Security measures how well a lock or deadbolt can withstand impact; durability measures how well a lock or deadbolt functions after repeated, long-term use; Finish measures how well a product can survive various environmental elements. Each category receives a rating of C (good), B (better) or A (best). When choosing the right locks and deadbolts for your home, ask yourself which Good, Better, Best rating combination in Security, Durability and Finish is right for your home. No matter the combination, you know your certified lock is tested and superior to other locks. Certification and ratings are signified by the BHMA Certified® SecureHome™ label. This is a new label designed to help consumers purchase certified locks.
The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association has created a video and graphics to help you to know what to consider when purchasing a new lock for your home. They really helped me in knowing which locks would last longer, look great, and help my family feel more secure.

For Autumn, I simply changed out my pillows and wreath. Then I added some fall flowers, colorful gourds, and lanterns. Hopefully this gives you a little inspiration for decorating your own porch for fall.
Happy fall y’all! I hope you have time to enjoy the crisp weather and beautiful colors.
and as always, Happy DIYing Friends! xo
