I’ve been gradually transforming my humble little kitchen.

The goal? A cozy, modern cottage look.

Not everything is new but it has a lot of character and it’s me.

I wanted it to feel light and fresh but welcoming. I wanted open shelves for my dish collection, and I wanted it to include lots of white, baskets, and textures.  I am happy with how it has turned out so far, I believe have accomplished these goals.

Hopefully, it will give you a few fun DIY ideas of your own.

I started with my pantry that you can see {here} and my spice cabinet which you can see {here}.  It needed to be organized so I created some country store style tags and labels.  You can download those here and here.

We then removed an awkward cabinet that was over the counter and paneled the walls using 1/4″ oak plywood that we had cut into 12″ wide strips.  I framed the windows using pine boards.  I primed and painted the walls and shelves white using Glidden® High Endurance Plus Paint+Primer in eggshell/satin Antique White.  The bottom cabinets and furniture I painted celery green.

I had some fun with hardware adding black brackets and hooks to the shelves.  I have a soft spot in my heart for black and white.  I bought these ones from Lowes®.IMG_6258

I used to have a very large, square table.  It took up all of the extra space in the kitchen.  I HAD to get rid of it.  I opted for an industrial metal bistro table I found at Bizchair®.

I did, however, keep the bench I love.

I found this awesome light fixture at Parrot Uncle®.  I knew when I saw it online I liked it but after it arrived, I fell in love with it.  It completely makes my kitchen.  It’s the finishing touch I needed.

The brass on the outside, the glass on the inside, the sturdy, heavy feel of it, the Thomas Edison light bulb, it’s stunning.  I am very impressed and I will be ordering from them again.  You can check out their awesome light fixtures {here}.

I was able to find details to finish the rest of my kitchen at Walmart®,  Target® and Homegoods®.
